When you need custom seed mixing, here are a few things to consider ahead of time:
Allow several days for seed mixing and shipping. During prime cover crop season, we are running on all cylinders and will move as quickly as possible to get your order out the door.
Select mix components, recognizing that all species should be adapted to the environment they are planted – soil type, drainage and topography, and winter climate – to name a few.
Think through the crop rotation; not all cover crop species are beneficial to the following cash crop.
Remember that more ingredients are not necessarily better. Yes, cocktail mixes provide the opportunity for more benefits; however, simpler mixes with fewer ingredients often come with fewer surprises and more consistent results – easing management choices and costs.
